Sayful attended The Westminster School and in the hopes of gaining employment joined the DFN Project SEARCH programme in 2025.
From the very beginning, Sayful realised that the outdoors was for him and he wanted to pursue a career in portering. However, due to his medical needs and physical limitations at the time, this had to be a steady journey.

Overcoming Challenges
Sayful has faced many physical challenges throughout his life due to his disabilities. Simple tasks that others may take for granted have often been a struggle. This has meant extra determination, patience and resilience every step of the way.
Despite the difficulties, Sayful never gave up on his dream of working and being independent. The DFN Project SEARCH programme gave him the opportunity, support and belief he needed to thrive.
Growth on the Job
Sayful started by pushing 2 trolleys at a time on the car park.
As his strength and confidence grew, so did his responsibilities. He took on more and more, developing his skills across several areas.
His rotations included:
- Portering
- Petrol Station
- Front End Duties
- Customer Service Support
A Story of Success
Sayful’s hard work and positive attitude have not gone unnoticed. His mentors consistently praised him and proudly declared him “the fastest porter in town”.
His family are incredibly proud and love seeing how excited he is to go to work each day.
Sayful has now secured a permanent contract with Asda Oldbury and recently received his first pay packet.
To celebrate this huge milestone, he treated his family to a meal out – a moment of pride for them all!
I used to find so many things really hard because of my disabilities. This programme has changed my life. My strength and stamina have strengthened massively and I can’t thank Asda, The Westminster School and everyone involved enough for giving me my independence.
