We’re a national charity working to transform employment opportunities for young people with a learning disability and/or who are autistic. In partnership with more than 200 organisations across the UK, we bring together employers, education provisions, local authorities and supported employment providers to create pathways into meaningful, paid work.
Backed by data and driven by people, we have supported over 4,000 young people, with an average of around 60% securing permanent paid employment.
What is a supported internship?
Our supported internship programme is a structured one-year transition to work programme that empowers young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or equivalent with the skills, confidence and on-the-job experience needed to secure meaningful paid employment.
How does it work?
Our expert team creates a partnership which includes:
Host Business
Provides an on-site base where interns can gain practical and professional experience across different job roles.
Local Authorities
Provides funding, individual life planning guidance, care management, and helps the programme to meet local needs.
School or College
Enrols interns from the local area onto the supported internship study programme, and provides the underpinning knowledge and skills to complement their supported internship experience.
Supported Employment Partners
Provides specially trained job coaches who support interns day-to-day, and work with host businesses, tutors and other supporting adults.
