When Abbey joined Asda Oldbury in July 2025 as part of the DFN Supported Internship programme, she arrived with significant anxiety, low self-confidence and concerns about taking on new challenges.
Fast forward one year, and her journey has been nothing short of remarkable!

Building Confidence Through Experience
Over the past year, Abbey has successfully completed three rotations across the business, embracing opportunities that once felt out of reach.
Working in George, Front End and Checkout, she gained valuable experience, developed new skills and grew in confidence every step of the way.
Overcoming Challenges
One of Abbey’s biggest personal achievements has been overcoming her fear of maths.
What once caused her significant anxiety and stress is now something she confidently uses every day in her role.
Through determination, resilience and a willingness to keep pushing herself, Abbey has turned a major barrier into one of her strengths.
The Next Chapter
Abbey’s hard work and commitment have been recognised with a permanent contract in George.
This is a significant milestone in her journey, securing sustainable employment and showing just how far she has come.
Abbey recently applied for a Team Leader position and successfully progressed through the recruitment process, achieving a very high score.
She is aiming to reach new heights and is determined to take on leadership challenges in the future.
In September, Abbey will begin her Level 2 Retail Apprenticeship, gaining a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs.
She is also preparing to mentor and coach the new interns joining the DFN Project SEARCH programme.
